Download BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac v2.1

Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion has made available for download a new version of its desktop application aimed at Apple's Mac users who own a BlackBerry smartphone, the BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac v2.1.

The new application release comes with various enhancements included into the mix, and also adds support for more devices from the handset vendor, including the new BlackBerry PlayBook tablet PC.

The application was designed so as to offer users the possibility to easily sync their BlackBerry smartphones or the BlackBerry PlayBook to their Mac computers.

The new application version is available for all Macs running under OS X v10.5.7 and above, RIM announced.

With this application, users will be able to sync contacts, calendar appointments, tasks and notes, as well as to transfer data between BlackBerry smartphones, or to add or remove applications from the mobile phone.

In order to enjoy the features that this software has to offer, users will have to have iTunes v7.7.1 or later installed on their desktop machines, and to own a BlackBerry handset that runs under BlackBerry OS 4.2 or higher.

“BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac v2.1 includes media sync support for the BlackBerry PlayBook,” RIM explains.

“In addition to being able to drag and drop files directly to BlackBerry PlayBook over USB or Wi-Fi, you can now use Desktop Software for Mac to sync music, photos and videos with iTunes and iPhoto over USB.”

Version 2.1 of the BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac also provides the ability to backup the BlackBerry device, and to restore it if needed.

Syncing iTunes media between the computer and the BlackBerry smartphone is a simple task with this application, and the same applies to importing photos and videos captured with the mobile phone to iPhoto, or to moving files from a BlackBerry device to another.

RIM to Release BlackBerry Superphone Soon

If you thought that only handsets running under Google's Android operating system could be called superphones, you were wrong.

Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion is reportedly gearing up for the release of a superphone of its own, some of the latest rumors on the Internet suggest.

The company should soon bring to shelves a BlackBerry device that would easily stand in line with some of the high-end phones on shelves today, including those running under Android.

Based on QNX, the said device should arrive on shelves with a large 4.3-inch touchscreen display into the mix, capable of delivering a 900+ resolution (most probably 960 ? 540 pixels, a qHD resolution).

The upcoming mobile phone might arrive on the market either with a 1.2GHz application processor inside, the same single core that was packed with the recently released Bold 9900, or with a dual-core CPU, the same as the BlackBerry PlayBook.

For the time being, no specific info on when would the mobile phone arrive on the market has emerged, but chances are that it might be released during the next several months, as RIM will try to catch up with competitors.

Apparently, to focus its resources on the building of this handset, the company decided to cancel the development of a successor for the PlayBook, one that would include a 10-inch touchscreen display.

Nothing is officially confirmed on the matter for the time being, but, since this is not the first time we learn of the possible delivery of such a BlackBerry smartphone, chances are that it might all pan out soon.

Previously, RIM suggested that they were working on the porting of QNX on smartphones, and a company's official even noted that dual-core smartphones were taken into consideration.

Hopefully, Research In Motion will manage to deliver the said device sooner rather than later, so that they could once again prove competitive at the high-end of the market.

TELUS to Launch BlackBerry Bold 9900 and BlackBerry 9860 Soon

Two new handsets from Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion are on their way to the Canadian market on the airwaves of wireless carrier TELUS, some of the latest reports around the Internet suggest.

Apparently, the newly launched BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 and the BlackBerry 9860 smartphones are those set to land at the wireless carrier in the near future.

The wireless carrier did not make an official announcement on the matter until now, but a leaked photo that just emerged into the wild comes as proof of that.

In the said image, available to the left, the BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 and the BlackBerry 9860 are shown with TELUS branding, which clearly points at an upcoming release.

The BlackBerry 9860, a smartphone long rumored to come to the market with a large touchscreen display into the mix and no physical QWERTY, has yet to be formally introduced.

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 was launched in early May during the BlackBerry World, comes with the new BlackBerry OS 7 on board, and with a touch and type design.

Bold 9900 is the first handset from RIM to sport a candybar from factor and to put together a touchscreen display and a QWERTY keyboard.

Apparently, the photo was taken into the wild in Toronto, which means that the wireless carrier is already testing the handsets on its airwaves, and that a launch should not be too far.

No official details on the possible release of these handsets at the Canadian wireless services provider is known for the time being, but things might change in the near future, so stay tuned to learn more on the matter.

Three UK to Launch BlackBerry Bold 9900 in September

Although RIM said that the Bold 9900 will be out on the market this summer, it appears that the phone's release was pushed back a bit.

At least one carrier will launch the smartphone in fall, as Three UK is now listing the Blackberry Bold 9900 on its “coming soon” webpage and it shows the phone as being available in September.

It looks like the carrier made some last minute changes, as the phone was initially slated for an August release, but for unknown reasons the phone's launch was delayed for the next month.

Even though it's not unusual for a carrier to change a phone's release date, it will be interesting to find if other carriers will be making the same changes and postpone the phone's launch for September.

Confident and sleek, BlackBerry Bold 9900 was officially unveiled six weeks ago and is the thinnest smartphone manufactured by Research in Motion (RIM) to date, as it measures only 10.5 mm.

The phone is powered by a 1.2 GHz processor, which makes it one of the most powerful RIM devices after the PlayBook tablet.

With BlackBerry 7 OS on board, the Bold 9900 seems to be the first from a new series of powerful devices.

The new mobile platform provides support for HSPA+ connectivity and Liquid Graphics touch screen.

Additionally, the BlackBerry Bold 9900 includes built-in support for NFC (Near Field Communications) and Augmented Reality.

The phone packs 8 GB of internal memory, 768 MB RAM, as well as microSD slot for memory expansion (up to 32 GB).

In addition, an average 5.0-megapixel photo snapper that supports 720p HD video recording and playback has been included as well.

Users will be able to share their videos directly from the smartphone or sync videos, as well as music and photos, to their computer using Media Sync in the BlackBerry Desktop Software.

BlackBerry PlayBook Arrives in the UK

BlackBerry PlayBook, the first tablet PC from the Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion, is now available for purchase in the UK at Selfridges, and is expected to become available nationwide as soon as tomorrow.

The tablet PC was unveiled to the world last year in September, but RIM did not make it available for purchase until only a few months ago in the United States.

Today, the device can be acquired in the UK as well, with all of its 7-inch goodness and with the new QNX-based Tablet OS that RIM packed it with.

The BlackBerry PlayBook was made available in three different flavors, based on the amount of internal memory they include.

The different versions of the device were made available for purchase at ?399 for the 16GB version, ?479 for 32GB and ?559 for the 64GB variant.

This places the PlayBook better than the Android-based HTC Flyer, which runs under Android and sports the same 7-inch touchscreen display, but which is priced at ?479 for 16GB.

RIM unveiled the PlayBook last year as its response to Apple's iPad, but was late with the actual release of the device on shelves, something that might hurt sales a lot.

The PlayBook is smaller than the iPad, and is also a generation behind now that Apple launched the second flavor of their tablet PC, which is available for only ?399 as well.

However, RIM's device can still prove a great option for a wide range of users, including business customers who are accustomed with what the BlackBerry solution has to offer.

The PlayBook sports a dual-core application processor, complemented by the aforementioned amount of memory, and a microSD memory card slot for expanding the storage space.

Moreover, the device features dual-cameras, one placed on the front to enable video calling, along with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity capabilities, GPS receiver, and the usual set of sensors.
