Simon Cowell Premieres X Factor USA Preview

He’s back: Simon Cowell, the biggest meanie in television right now, is back on the panel of judges for X Factor, the brand-new US version this time. The first preview for the first season has just premiered – and you can check it out below, at the end of the article.

In the first seconds of the trailer, it becomes clear that something is not as it should be. For one, Simon is no longer mean; in fact, he’s exactly the contrary of that, praising contestants and agreeing with Paula Abdul on absolutely everything.

As any of Cowell’s fans must know, this almost never happens. Plus, Simon is wearing a pink sweater no less and is driving an eco-friendly car, neither of which, again, seems something he would do.

“Let’s face it. A year is a long time. We all change our attitudes and this is a different decade. It’s not about me anymore. It’s about them. I want to make people’s dream come true. I even think about the environment,” he can be heard saying.

Just as things are starting to become too weird to take, Simon wakes up: he’s been sleeping all along and having one of his worst “nightmares.” Thank God, nothing has changed.

The footage then shows Cowell as we all know him: mean, bad mouthed, blunt to the point of offensive, indifferent to environmental issues and other people’s feelings, unapologetic and, last but not least, Paula’s biggest frenemy.

Speaking of how the idea came up to make this hilarious promo, Cowell reveals that the other judges (Paula, L.A. Reid and Nicole Scherzinger) had no say in it, it was all his doing.

“I sort of ‘dreamt’ the promo – seriously I did. I woke up and I can’t remember whether it was a nightmare or a dream but I remember laughing when I woke up and I quickly wrote it down,” Simon says, as cited by ContactMusic.

“The idea was what was the most inappropriate thing I could wear and it was either going to be pink or yellow – so we got all these sweaters and the pink one just stood out!” he adds.

X Factor premieres on Fox on September 21. In the meantime, check out the preview below.
