The Samsung Series 3 line will include mobile computers with displays ranging from 11.6 all the way up to 15.6 inches, but, despite the common naming scheme, these feature different designs depending on the screen size.
One of the most interesting devices to make its appearance in this new series is the 12.1-inch model, which provides a nice balance between portability and price as it starts at just $749.
For this much money, users will get a second generation Intel Core processors in the form of the Core i3-2310M which features dual processing cores clocked at 2.1GHz with support for Intel's HyperThreading technology as well as an HD 3000 integrated graphics core.
This will be paired together with 2GB of system memory, a yet unknown version of the Windows 7 operating system, an HDMI video output, an SD card slot and a full sized island-style keyboard.
A Core i5 processor option will also be available, and the RAM can also be upgraded to higher capacities.
The 12.1-inch Samsung Series 3 laptop also includes a matte display that seems to use a 1366x768 resolution and a non-replaceable battery.
Larger models in the Series 3 range will have swappable batteries as well as optical disc drives, but also much thicker chassis.
Together with the Series 3, Samsung will also introduce new naming scheme for its portable computers and this product family will become the company’s new mainstream line of laptops.
Keeping with this naming scheme, the Series 5 will include specialized notebooks such as the Chromebook model launched last week, while Series 9 devices are premium ultraportable laptops designed to fill small market niches.
Finally, is worth to note that Samsung hasn't finalized the specifications of the Series 3, so these could suffer some changes until they reach retail. (via Liliputing)
