Since this is the IT industry, new things, naturally, come out all the time, and even though tablets seem to be taking up most of the media space, they are hardly running a monopoly.
That said, VIZIO boldly stepped forth and provided consumers with a wide selection of 3DTVs, all of them designed with passive 3D support.
The available screen sizes are of 32 inches to 65 inches, while prices go from $499 to $3,049, although some models have yet to be given their own tags.
The products are divided into the E, M and XVT lines and come with Vizio Internet Apps (games, sports and other widgets can be downloaded) while the included V.I.A. Plus platform can synchronize the panel with Blu-ray players, tablets, etc.
"We are highly encouraged by the positive response our circular polarized 3D technology has received from industry experts, the press, and Hollywood leaders like James Cameron," said Randy Waynick, VIZIO's Chief Sales Officer.
"VIZIO's early commitment to this direction, with its superior viewer experience, has enabled us to develop the industry's most comprehensive range of 3D HDTVs, ranging from introductory price levels to the most advanced cinematic displays available today."
The 3D TVs are all of the passive variety, as this sort of panel is expected to start outpacing shutter glasses sets in 3 years or so. Sales will start as early as August, although the latest-scheduled panels are expected in December.
"Passive polarized 3D TVs will appeal to many consumers for a variety of reasons, and products at a variety of price points are possible too," noted Insight Media President, Chris Chinnock.
"By 2014, sales of passive sets will outpace shutter glasses sets, according to our forecast."
