Jennifer Lopez Keeps Everyone Guessing About Return to American Idol

Though there’s still a while to go until a brand new season of American Idol premieres, one of the most burning questions for fans is whether Jennifer Lopez will return as judge. She doesn’t know yet, she says in a recent interview.

Lopez was on “Allan Carr: Chatty Man” on Friday to promote her latest single, “I’m Into You,” and as the video below will confirm, she also opened up a bit about the possibility of returning to American Idol.

Earlier reports had it that she did not want to commit an answer right now because she wanted more money from producers: $23 million, to be more precise, up from the reported $12 million she got for the first season.

When Carr asked her whether that was truly the case, the singer said it was her schedule that might make her return to AI impossible and not money.

“You’ve only signed up for one season, but apparently they’ve offered you $20 million to go back,” Carr told her after teasing her a bit about snubbing Simon Cowell and his offer for X Factor.

“They did?” Jennifer responded, laughing. “Well, I better get on the phone then. That sounds pretty good!” she added.

She then went on to say that the decision implied more than just the much mediated financial aspect: she simply didn’t know whether she had the time to do more Idol.

“I have not decided whether I’m going back yet. It’s not time [to decide] and I have a lot of things happening,” Lopez said.

“And I really got to decide whether I’m going to do a film or if I’m gonna go on tour or if I’m going back to TV. I really don’t know yet,” she answered.

For the time being, Lopez said in a previous interview, there wasn’t too much pressure to make a decision, which means she still has plenty of time to figure out if being on TV is what she wants.

In the meantime, below is the video of the last part of the interview with Carr and Lopez’s live performance of “I’m Into You.”
